Lighter, more muscular, more distinctive and more fuel-efficient

ATLANTA, January 12, 2012 - Never before in the history of the Porsche Boxster has a change of generation been so comprehensive. The open-top two-seat car receives an entirely new lightweight body and a completely revamped chassis. The new Boxster weighs less than the previous generation and rides on a longer wheelbase and a wider track. These new dimensions are coupled with larger wheels and a new electromechanical power steering system to significantly enhance the mid-engine sports car's driving dynamics. The new Boxster boasts superior performance and is also up to 15 percent more fuel-efficient than previous models on the European cycle.

The new Boxster benefits not only from an increased wheelbase but also shorter overhangs, while the windscreen has been shifted forward. The passengers are enclosed by the completely redesigned, fully electric top, which now dispenses with a convertible top compartment lid. The interior concept offers the occupants more space and reflects the new Porsche outline with a raked center console, which, originating with the Carrera GT ensures improved ergonomics in all models.

The new sports car generation makes its debut in the classic Porsche pairing of Boxster and Boxster S. Both models are powered by flat-six engines with direct fuel injection, the efficiency of which is further enhanced by electrical system recuperation, thermal management and start/stop function. The base model's new power unit delivers 265 hp from a 2.7 liter displacement - ten hp more than its larger displacement predecessor. Technically, it is now based on the 3.4-liter engine of the Boxster S. This now delivers 315 hp, which is five hp more than before. Both models feature a manual six-speed gearbox as standard with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as an option. Both sports cars achieve their best fuel consumption and acceleration performance with the PDK. With gear changes without interruption to the power flow, the Boxster sprints from zero to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, the Boxster S in 4.7 seconds.

To enhance driving dynamics yet further, Porsche offers the Sport Chrono Package as an optional extra for the Boxster, featuring dynamic transmission mounts for the first time. Also new in the Boxster is Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear axle differential lock.

The new Boxster models are expected in U.S. showrooms in early summer 2012. The basic list price iwill be $49,500 for the Boxster and $60,900 for the Boxster S, not including a $950 destination charge.

World Premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show Next Month

ATLANTA -- August 23 2011 - At 48, the Porsche 911 Carrera is younger than ever. The completely redesigned seventh-generation sports car icon is stepping into the limelight with its sleek and stretched silhouette, exciting contours and precisely designed features. Yet from every angle it is unmistakably a 911, holding true to the Porsche 911 Carrera ‘evolution, not revolution' design philosophy.

The 100 mm or 3.9 inch longer wheelbase and reduced overall height underpin the fresh, athletic yet elegant appearance. When viewed from the front, the eye is drawn to the 911's trademark wide-arched fenders, emphasizing the wider front track. The side mirrors are now mounted on the upper edge of the door, which also helps highlight the new design line and gives the visual impression of width.

The new lightweight body is an aluminum-steel composite construction and contributes greatly to the 45 kg or about 100 lbs weight reduction when compared to the previous 911 body. When combined with the greater structural rigidity and optimized aerodynamics - including a wider, variably extending rear spoiler - the new 911 Carrera's front and rear lift has been reduced to near zero while retaining the Cd value of 0.29.

To complement the modern exterior design, Porsche designers created an interior reminiscent of the Carrera GT. The driver is now even more closely integrated within the cockpit thanks to the rising center console and high-mounted shift lever or gear selector located close to the steering wheel. As with the exterior, classic Porsche elements abound inside. Present is the instrument cluster with five round gauges - one of them a high resolution multifunction screen, and of course the central tachometer and the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel.

Setting the standard in its class, as it has for generations, the new 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S raise the performance and efficiency bar yet another notch. All versions get by with significantly less than 10 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (official U.S. EPA fuel mileage estimates are TBD) and fuel consumption and emissions are up to 16 percent lower in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) when compared with the predecessor. This is achieved through systems such as the Automatic Start Stop function, engine and transmission thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world's first seven-speed manual transmission and - in conjunction with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) - the ability to ‘sail' or coast. The new electro-mechanical power steering offers not only Porsche's typical precision and feedback but also helps increase efficiency and reduce fuel-consumption.

For example, the 911 Carrera with the new 350 hp, 3.4-liter boxer engine and optional PDK consumes 8.2 l/100 km based on the NEDC - 1.6 l/100 km less than its predecessor.

The 911 Carrera S with its 400 hp, 3.8-liter boxer engine - 15 hp more than before - achieves 8.7 l/100 km in the NEDC when paired with the optional PDK transmission. This represents a fuel consumption decrease of 14 percent or 1.5 l/100 km.

At the same time there are performance improvements in both models. The 911 Carrera S with PDK accelerates from 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds. Using the Launch Control function of the optional Sport Chrono Package cuts that to 3.9 seconds. The 911 Carrera with PDK needs only 4.4 seconds to sprint from a standing start to 60 mph (4.2 seconds when using the optional Sport Chrono Package's Launch Control function). Top-track speed for the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera is 188 mph and 179 mph, respectively.

The new 911 offers both better longitudinal dynamics and unprecedented top performance in terms of transverse dynamics. In addition to the longer wheelbase, the greater agility, precision and driving stability are based, among other things, on the wider front track, the new rear axle and new electro-mechanical power steering. Depending on the model, there are other standard or optional active control systems available that can help further enhance the overall driving dynamics. That is especially true for the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilization system, available for the first time on the 911 Carrera S. The system helps reduce lateral roll when cornering and helps keep the tires in the optimal position relative to the road surface.

The new 911 further extends the span of seemingly contradictory attributes such as performance and efficiency, sportiness and every day practicality that have always typified the Porsche 911. That makes the 911 Carrera more of a 911 than ever. The new Porsche 911 Carrera celebrates its world premiere at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The first new 911 models will arrive in U.S. dealerships beginning in February of 2012. The new 911 Carrera Coupe will have a base MSRP of $82,100, while the 911 Carrera S Coupe's base MSRP will be $96,400 (excluding destination). Both models will include substantial additional equipment when compared to the previous models.

Limited-edition car is packed with motorsport technology

ATLANTA - April 28, 2011 --- The 911 GT3 RS, one of Porsche's most popular, coveted and successful track-inspired production cars, has been given a final, thrilling injection of thoroughbred motorsport technology resulting in the 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0. Limited to 600 vehicles worldwide, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 brings together in a sports car the attributes that have made the Porsche 911 GT3 a consistent winner on the race track.

The motorsport-derived 4.0-liter engine, already the highest displacement 911 engine ever, also features the highest per-liter output -- 125 horsepower (hp) per liter -- from a naturally aspirated Porsche flat-six engine. The engine uses forged pistons, the connecting rods are fashioned from titanium, and the crankshaft has been lifted unchanged from the 911 GT3 RSR race car. It achieves its maximum power of 500 hp at 8,250 rpm. Maximum torque of 339 ft/lbs is reached at 5,750 rpm.

The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 offers truly impressive performance, lapping the famed Nürburgring-Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 27 seconds. Available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.8 seconds, and with its gearing designed for the race circuit it reaches the 124 mph mark on the race track in under 12 seconds.

The 911 GT3 RS 4.0's outstanding driving dynamics come from numerous, meticulously coordinated details. In addition to using suspension components typically encountered in motor racing, weight reduction is also of supreme importance. Equipped as standard with lightweight components such as light but strong carbon fiber sport bucket seats, carbon fiber front fenders and luggage compartment lid, and weight-optimized carpets, the two-seater's ready-for-action weight is just 2,998 lbs with a full fuel tank. The 911 GT3 RS 4.0's power-to-weight ratio is 5.99 lbs/hp.

This limited edition 911 is painted Carrara White as standard and emphasizes its proximity to motor racing by its dynamic appearance. Signature characteristics are the wide track, the low vehicle position, the large rear wing with side plates, central twin tailpipe, and the aerodynamically optimized body. Air deflection vanes mounted on either side of the front bumper - called ‘flics' or dive planes - make their first appearance on a production Porsche. They create increased downforce on the front axle, and together with the steeply inclined rear wing, provide aerodynamics on par with its performance capabilities. As a result, at the 193 mph top track speed, aerodynamic forces exert an additional 426 lbs of downforce, thus pushing the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 onto the road.

With a manufacturer's suggested retail price starting at $185,000 (excluding destination), the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 goes on sale in the United States in late 2011.

ATLANTA - March 30, 2011 --- With its new four-door Panamera Turbo S, Porsche once again raises the bar for sporty four-door luxury cars by delivering ultra high performance and efficiency, sports-car-like driving dynamics, and first-class comfort in a purely Porsche package.

Porsche will reveal its most powerful Panamera for the first time in North America on April 20, 2011, at the New York International Auto Show.

The engine in the new top-of-the-line Panamera is based on the already proven and powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine in the Panamera Turbo. The 4.8 liter, V8 engine in the Turbo S achieves a maximum output of 550 horsepower, which is 10 percent more than the 500 horsepower delivered by the Panamera Turbo. The torque is also increased over the Turbo from 516 lb-ft to 553 lb-ft. In the "Sport" and "Sport Plus" mode of the standard Sport Chrono Package Turbo, the overboost function can temporarily generate additional torque with a peak rating of 590 lb.-ft.

The power increase delivered in the Panamera Turbo S can be attributed to two main enhancements: new twin turbochargers with titanium-aluminum turbines, and modified engine control. Titanium-aluminum reduces the turbine and compressor wheel's weight, which results in a quicker turbo response that improves the engine's agility.

The formidable powerplant that lies beneath the hood of the Panamera Turbo S is capable of propelling it to sports-car sprint times. With the help of Launch Control, the newest Panamera can reach 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. The top track speed is 190 mph. And despite this increased performance, fuel consumption is expected to remain comparable to the Panamera Turbo that delivers an EPA estimated rating of 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway (18 mpg combined). Official EPA fuel economy estimates for the Panamera Turbo S will be available when the car goes on sale in North America.

Even for a world-class luxury car, the Panamera Turbo S boasts an extraordinarily high level of comprehensive features. In keeping with its sporty concept, it comes equipped with the most important driving-dynamic control systems. For example, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) is an active anti-roll system that significantly reduces lateral body movement during corning, which enhances stability, handling and overall occupant comfort. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) is also standard and works to help ensure superior traction and higher-performance cornering by applying a variable torque split to the rear wheels in combination with an electronically controlled rear differential lock. Porsche’s Plug-In Hybrid 918 Spyder Goes from Dream to Reality

Now available for ordering, the 918 Spyder will feature cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology and stunning performance, forever changing the future of the super sports car

ATLANTA - March 21, 2011 --- After outstanding customer response to the concept car first shown at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche today announced that dealers around the world will begin taking 918 Spyder customer orders. This is a significant step toward actual production of the company's next super sports car, a Porsche that marries unique plug-in hybrid technology and outstanding performance in a visually stunning and purely Porsche package.

The 918 Spyder will feature a high revving 500-plus horsepower V8 engine assisted by two electric motors with a total of at least 218 horsepower, yet Porsche estimates it will consume only 3.0 L/100 km based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Official EPA fuel economy figures or estimates will be announced just before the first customer cars begin arriving in the United States near the end of 2013.

To ensure the 918 Spyder's worldwide exclusivity, Porsche will produce no more than 918 examples. Start of production at Porsche's famed factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen is planned for Sept. 18, 2013 (9/18), and the U.S. base manufacturer's suggested retail price is $845,000 (excluding destination and handling charges).

With its design inspired by past Porsches like the Carrera GT super sports car and the legendary 917 and highly successful RS Spyder race cars, the 918 Spyder remains faithful to the 2010 concept car. Unlike the concept car, the two-seat production version, based on a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic monocoque, will feature a manual roof system with removable panels that can be stored in the front luggage compartment.

Super high performance with very low fuel consumption and emissions

The 918 Spyder will be powered by a unique plug-in hybrid system that will include a high-revving, mid-mounted V8 engine with capacity of more than 4.0 liters and producing at least 500 horsepower. The engine will be based on the Porsche RS Spyder racing engine that demonstrated its impressive performance and efficiency through multiple Michelin Green X Challenge victories in the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Power will be transferred to the rear wheels via Porsche's compact, seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) double-clutch gearbox.

Two electric motors - one each on the front and rear axles - together will provide approximately 218 additional horsepower. This configuration also will offer an innovative, variable all-wheel drive system with independent control of the drive forces on both axles. Electrical energy will be stored in a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that can be recharged from a standard household outlet. Electric-only driving range is expected to be more than 16 miles on the NEDC. Recharge time will depend on each country's electrical power network, but charging is expected to take about seven hours at 110V/10A in the United States. A quick-charge option is being evaluated to further reduce charging times.

With anticipated combined fuel consumption of just 3.0 L/100 km on the NEDC, this equates to CO₂ emissions of only 70 g/km or 112 g/mile. On the other hand, the Porsche 918 Spyder will deliver super sports car performance. It is estimated that the final production version will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 3.1 seconds on its way to an estimated top track speed of 199 mph. It should also tackle Germany's famed Nürburgring Nordschleife in less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds, two seconds faster than the Porsche Carrera GT. Under the right conditions, the 918 Spyder will be able to drive on electric power alone at speeds up to 94 mph for limited distances.

Customers who order the 918 Spyder also have the opportunity to acquire a special-edition 911 Turbo S Coupe or Cabriolet. Also limited to no more than 918 units, the 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder will have exterior and interior design elements echoing the plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder supercar's styling. It features similar exterior colors, carbon-fiber elements inside and out, enhanced leather equipment and numerous acid-green accents on items such as the brake calipers, illuminated sill plates, interior stitching and instrument cluster needles. A limited-edition badge on the glove compartment door will feature the same production number as the customer's 918 Spyder.

Worldwide 918 Spyder customers can begin ordering this special edition 911 Turbo S sports car today, and customer deliveries will start later in 2011. The U.S. base manufacturer's suggested retail prices for the Coupe and Cabriolet versions are the same as the standard 911 Turbo S models, $160,700 and $172,100 respectively, excluding destination.

Porsche Cajun's Future Production Site is Official

It has been decided: the Cayenne's smaller sibling will be built at the same plant in Leipzig.

The new vehicle, with the project designation "Cajun," will require a significant expansion of the plant of more than 1.5 square miles. Porsche's supervisory board decided that Leipzig will become a "fully fledged" production facility for the new SUV that will include a body assembly line and a devoted paint shop. Construction of the new plant will begin later this year, and will ultimately result in an additional 1,000 new jobs.

"During the production of the Cayenne and the Panamera, our Leipzig plant has impressively proved that it can produce premium vehicles of highest quality," said our chairman Matthias Müller. "The decision in favor of this location is proof of our trust in the skills and qualifications of our Leipzig associates, and at the same time another contribution to the economic advancement of the region."

When built, the "Cajun" will represent Porsche's fifth model line. It will further extend our SUVs with a smaller, lighter, very efficient and agile new offering in this popular vehicle segment. As an attractive entry-level modeI, it is expected to pave the way for new, even younger customers to enter the Porsche brand.

Sponsored by PCNA, Rennsport Reunion IV brings together an unprecedented gathering of significant Porsche vintage and current race cars, as well those who have driven them to victory in the world's most famous sports car races. The three-day program of on-track competition is complemented by a concours d'elegance, which is open to invited race participants, and special activities celebrating the decades-long history of the legendary 911 race cars.

Porsche presents first functional, full hybrid car in the world, the 'Semper Vivus', 111 years after its World Premiere in 1900

ATLANTA - February 24, 2011 --- From the beginning of the 20^th century, the name Porsche has been associated with pioneering innovations in automotive engineering. Ferdinand Porsche, the founding father of the present-day Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, entered unchartered territory in 1900 with the creation of the first fully-functional hybrid car in the world, the 'Semper Vivus' ('always alive').

In a stunning four-year project the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart has recreated the Semper Vivus to its original glory. One-hundred eleven years after Ferdinand Porsche's ground breaking innovation, the Semper Vivus will commemorate Porsche's lengthy dedication to ground-breaking hybrid technology with an appearance at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. It will subsequently be on display as part of the Porsche Museum collection in Stuttgart.

In addition, Porsche has recently announced that a second production hybrid will follow the Cayenne S Hybrid SUV, the Panamera S Hybrid. Deriving its total power output of 380 hp from a three-liter V6 supercharged engine and a 47 hp electric unit, the Panamera S Hybrid's total fuel consumption is 6.8 l/100 km. That equates to CO2 emissions of just 159 g/km, making it the most economical Porsche of all time.

ATLANTA - February 16, 2011 --- Debuting later this year, Porsche will unveil its second production hybrid model, the Panamera S Hybrid, adding another chapter to its Porsche Intelligent Performance development philosophy. Without sacrificing sportiness or elegance, this new Panamera model produces 380 horsepower with fuel consumption of only 6.8 L/100 km on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

The Panamera S Hybrid is the most fuel efficient Porsche of all time. Optional low-rolling-resistance tires developed especially for the Panamera help this hybrid performance sedan deliver its impressive NEDC fuel economy figure. But even with standard performance tires, the Panamera S Hybrid's fuel consumption is a low 7.1 L/100 km. Official EPA fuel economy estimates will be available closer to the car's on-sale date.

The Panamera S Hybrid sets new standards in terms of Porsche performance as well as hybrid efficiencies. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds and has a top track speed of 167 mph (270 km/h). Its range in purely electric mode is approximately one mile, with electric-only acceleration possible up to just over 50 mph (85 km/h).

The Porsche parallel full hybrid system also reduces consumption at high speeds thanks to its ‘sailing' or coasting mode. When the driver lifts off the accelerator at normal highway cruising speeds, the gasoline engine is completely switched off and disengaged from the drivetrain by a decoupling clutch. This eliminates the combustion engine's drag forces and braking effect in the interest of lower resistance, fuel consumption and emissions. As soon as the driver presses the accelerator, to pass another vehicle for example, the gasoline engine smoothly starts within fractions of a second and engine rpms are increased to match the current vehicle speed. It does this seamlessly thanks to the Hybrid Manager, which also helps the Panamera S Hybrid accelerate dynamically in gears at higher speeds much like a conventional Panamera.

The same gasoline engine/electric motor combination that has already proven itself in the Cayenne S Hybrid drives the Panamera S Hybrid. A 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine delivering 333 horsepower is supported by a 47-horsepower (34 kW) electric motor. Depending on driving conditions, either drive unit can operate independently or together to drive the rear wheels. The electric motor, which also serves as the car's generator and starter, combines with the decoupling clutch to form the compact hybrid module located between the combustion engine and the transmission. The electric motor is connected to a nickel metal hydride (NiMh) battery that stores electric energy recovered from braking and other driving situations. The transmission is the same eight-speed Tiptronic S fitted in the Cayenne models, with a wide range of gear ratios.

The Panamera S Hybrid has an even higher level of standard equipment than the V8 Panamera S. Adaptive Air Suspension with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) adaptive shock absorber system, Servotronic^® variable-assist power steering and a rear wiper have been added to the list of standard equipment. Other standard features include Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation, the universal audio interface to connect an external audio source such as an iPod or a USB stick to the PCM system, and Bi-Xenon^{^TM} headlights. Inside, this new model also features an innovative display that provides the driver with relevant information about the status of the vehicle's hybrid drive systems.

With the launch of the new hybrid variant, the Panamera model line now consists of six different models. The new offering underlines the strategic importance of the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy, with a combination of sportiness and economy unique in its segment. As such, it builds on the Panamera sedan's considerable success, with over 30,000 vehicles delivered worldwide since it went on sale in late 2009.

The Panamera S Hybrid will go on sale in the United States later in 2011 at a base suggested retail price of $95,000 (excluding destination).

Porsche raised the performance, efficiency and luxury bar with the all-new 2011 Cayenne SUV, and it out-performed all contenders in this year's judging.

ATLANTA - October 19, 2010 - At the start there were 15 of the world's newest and best sport/utility vehicles poised to battle for the 2011 Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year^® title and the famed Motor Trend calipers. When the dust settled, there was one - the 2011 Porsche Cayenne.

The announcement was made live via Motor Trend's Facebook page. Porsche Cars North America shared the news through Porsche on Twitter and on Porsche's Facebook page.

As with every year, Motor Trend's editors rigorously tested all 2011 Sport/Utility of the Year contenders to determine which sport/utility vehicle (SUV) would top this year's list.

"Our Sport/Utility of the Year evaluation is not a comparison test," said Angus MacKenzie, Motor Trend editor-in-chief. "Each contender is evaluated against six criteria - Advancement in Design, Engineering Excellence, Efficiency, Safety, Value, and Performance of Intended Function. 2012 Porsche 911 Spied on 405 Freeway!

One of my clients snapped this photo with his blackberry while driving his 911 Cabriolet on the 405 freeway between L.A. and Orange County. There were two identical cars following each other. This is a test mule of the up-coming 2012 911. Rumors on the web suggest the model will be called the 998 but I was told by a Porsche factory insider that this next-generation 911 will be known as the 991. There has been a lot of speculation about the details of the model, including some very nice computer renderings but no official word from Porsche regarding details or specs for this car.

Only fourth model in Porsche history to bear the Speedster name

ATLANTA - September 21, 2010 - Paying homage to the first Porsche model to bear the Speedster name - the 356 Speedster - Porsche has announced that a new 911 Speedster will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in early October. Significantly different from other members of the 911 family, this two-seat roadster features a 2.36" (60 millimeter) lower, more raked windscreen and the characteristic speedster double-bubble hardcover for the manual soft top. Helping to define the striking profile of the new 2011 911 Speedster, the 1.73" (44 millimeter) wide-body from the AWD 911 models makes the rear-wheel-drive only Speedster stand out even more. The production run of this special car will be limited to 356 units worldwide, with approximately 100 heading to the U.S.

Fourth Edition of a Sports Car Legend

The new 911 speedster combines the classic features of the now well-known Speedster series with improved performance over the current 911 generation: The 3.8-liter flat six engine delivers 408 horsepower (hp), 23 hp more in comparison with the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, yet is EPA rated the same at 19 mpg city / 27 mpg highway. The 2011 Speedster reaches 0-60 MPH in 4.2 seconds with Sport Chrono Plus and has a top-track speed of 190 mph (305 km/h) - all courtesy of Porsche Intelligent Performance.

The seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission transmits power to the rear axle with a limited-slip differential lock, also included as standard equipment. A six-speed manual transmission is not available. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) are standard, too. Add to that exemplary protection for driver and passengers in the new 911 Speedster as Porsche engineers improved the rollover protection system which is standard in all open-top Porsche cars.

Original Speedster - Created Especially for the U.S.

In 1953, the Speedster series was launched as purist sports car based on the Porsche 356.

New York Porsche importer Max Hoffman envisioned a lightweight 356 cabriolet that would look and perform in America like no other sports car. The car Porsche created had two sports bucket seats, doors with slide-in plastic windows and a shortened, elegantly curved windscreen and proved to be quite popular, especially in southern California.

In 1988, the second Speedster, this time based on the 911 Carrera, celebrated its revival with an added feature: the characteristic double bubbles. In 1993/1994, the next evolutionary stage of the 911 Carrera was ushered in with the third Speedster edition.

The conception of the current Speedster comes from Porsche Exclusive - the department specializing in individualization of all Porsche cars and limited production models like the 911 Speedster. The 2011 Speedster heralds the 25th anniversary of Porsche Exclusive which will be celebrated in 2011, and once again, demonstrates the small-series competence of Porsche Exclusive after the European success of the 2010 911 Sport Classic. Living up to the Porsche Exclusive standard, the 911 Speedster features almost all optional equipment of the 911 series and its appeal also comes from its meticulously hand-finished interior in black smooth-finish leather with numerous exterior color painted details exclusive to the Speedster. These include decorative designs with checkerboard patterns in the seat center-section of the adaptive sports seats suggestive of a checkered flag, and the leather side bolsters in the exterior color.

The sporty flavor is further enhanced by the exterior color "Pure Blue" which has been developed exclusively for the Speedster, providing an intriguing contrast with the tinted front lights, black headlight rings, black windscreen surround and other black decorative designs. Upon request, the Speedster is available in Carrara White, at no extra cost. It also features a special front apron, specific sideskirts and a distinct rear apron.

In the U.S., the 911 Carrera Speedster will be available beginning in early 2011, MSRP will be $204,000.

Stuttgart. Renowned US specialist journal "Car and Driver" has awarded the Porsche Boxster Spyder the title "best-handling car in America". Thanks to its outstanding handling characteristics, the open-top mid-engine sports car from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, asserted itself against six high-class competitors during the test drives at the Waterford Hills race circuit in Michigan. The top model in the Boxster series particularly impressed the experienced testers with its well-balanced chassis, its precise steering and its predictability, especially at the handling limits.

The test result precisely reflects the design of the Boxster Spyder: the two-seater clearly and visibly embodies the puristic form of a Porsche sports car - light, powerful, consistently open-topped plus extremely efficient and economical. At 1275 kilograms, it is the lightest model within the entire Porsche product range. In combination with the 320 hp (239 kW) six-cylinder engine, this enables both extremely sporty dynamics and economical fuel consumption - in short, exemplary Porsche Intelligent Performance. Athletic, Muscular Design Statement

Unique within the Carrera family, the 911 Carrera GTS combines the 44 millimeter wider Carrera 4 body of the AWD models, including a wider rear track and wheels, with rear-wheel drive. There are many more details which distinguish the appearance and technology of a GTS from other Carrera models, for instance, the GTS runs on 19-inch center-mount RS Spyder wheels, painted black, with high-gloss rim flanges and 305/30 R 19 tires on the rear axle.

Other visual features include the SportDesign front apron with black spoiler edge, special sideskirts, also in black, and the Carrera GTS logotype on doors and rear lid, in black or silver depending on the body color. More Power. Quicker Acceleration. Same Fuel Economy.

Detailed attention was paid to the intake and exhaust functions in the 3.8-liter flat-six engine that now delivers 408 hp: A special resonance intake manifold featuring six vacuum-controlled tuning flaps switch between power and torque-optimized geometry compared to the Carrera S power unit with only one tuning flap. This allows for increased torque in the mid-rev range. Maximum torque of 310 lb. ft. (420 Nm) is unchanged, but is available at 4,200 rpm; 200 rpm earlier when compared with the Carrera S. Additionally, a sport exhaust system with two dual-tipped tailpipes with their outer shells painted black with polished inner tubes comes standard.

The Carrera GTS comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available. In comparison with the Carrera S, top track speed for manual transmission Coupe rises by two mph to 190 (306 km/h). Acceleration from zero to 60 is 4.0 seconds for the GTS Coupe with PDK and Sport Chrono Package Plus. And the new Carrera GTS will offer fuel economy of up to 19 mpg city / 27 mpg highway.

Results of the Study are presented using a problems-per-100 vehicles (PP100) metric, often referred to as "things gone wrong." The study includes quality comparisons by manufacturer, assembly plant, model, and platform.

Porsche averaged just 83 problems per 100 vehicles, well under the industry average of 109 problems per 100 vehicles.

Sharing the Porsche driving and luxury experience with more than one gets easier with the 2011 Panamera and Panamera 4 on sale in June

ATLANTA - June 4, 2010 - Starting tomorrow the 2011 Panamera and Panamera 4 featuring the company's all-new, fuel efficient 300-horsepower V6 engine will begin arriving at Porsche's nearly 200 dealerships across America.

These new models come just eight months after the successful launch of the V8-powered Panamera S, Panamera 4S and Panamera Turbo. Since then, Porsche has sold more than 4,000 Panamera Gran Turismos to U.S. customers.

The new Panamera models feature an all-new, Porsche-designed 3.6-liter, 90-degree V6 engine with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) that develops 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Built on the same line as the normally aspirated and twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 engines found in the Panamera S, 4S and Turbo, this new engine propels the Panamera and Panamera 4 from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 and 5.8 seconds, respectively (5.8 and 5.6 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package Plus option). Top test track speeds are 160 and 159 mph, respectively.

As a whole, these new models provide high levels of performance, agility and comfort and the same safety systems found in the V8 Panameras, yet they return even better fuel economy figures than the already efficient Panamera S, 4S and Turbo. The Panamera achieves 18 mpg city/27 highway while the all-wheel-drive Panamera 4 delivers 18 mpg city/26 highway, numbers that are no doubt appealing to consumers who demand driving excitement and fuel efficiency.

The Panamera and Panamera 4 MSRPs are $74,400 and $78,900, excluding destination.

Porsche Intelligent Performance = no gas guzzler penalty

Like every Porsche, the Panamera and Panamera 4 were developed according to the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy -- more performance on less fuel, increased efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions. U.S. models come standard with the revolutionary Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed double-clutch gearbox and the Auto Start Stop function that saves fuel and reduces emissions by turning the engine off when it is not needed, such as sitting at a stop light. Like all Porsches except the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS, neither is subject to a gas-guzzler tax. And both meet the strict EU5 emission standard in Europe and the LEV standard in the United States.

Porsche has always focused on superior efficiency and performance, and in the case of these new Panamera models these long-held tenets are not mutually exclusive. One example is consistent lightweight construction with the axles, doors, hood, front fenders and tailgate all made of aluminum. Likewise, the Porsche V6 is about 66 lbs. lighter than the V8, which contributes to the low overall curb weight of just 3,880 lbs. (1,730 kg) for the Panamera with the PDK transmission.

Like the proven V8 models, both the Panamera and the Panamera 4, as genuine Gran Turismos, combine a sporting character with a high standard of comfort and everyday driving qualities. Steel suspension is standard, and variable dampers and adaptive air suspension with additional air volume on demand are optional. This is not the first time the iconic 911 model has been chosen as the winner of the Vehicle Satisfaction Award.

"Vehicles that score highest in the Vehicle Satisfaction Awards are delivering value and satisfaction across a wide range of attributes," said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. "The winners perform well in 48 separate categories that objectively measure the ownership experience."

Each year the VSA establish numerical car ratings for virtually every passenger vehicle and light truck in the United States market. The final results come from calculating owner input across a number of areas that are related to a vehicle's attributes, including: exterior styling, exterior size, passenger roominess, cargo space, driver's seat comfort, driver's seat visibility, interior technology, interior lighting, power and acceleration, ease of getting in and out, interior storage compartments, ride, handling, safety features and tires and wheels.

Atlanta, March 18, 2010 - According to a quality study by J.D. Power and Associates, Porsche continues to meet and exceed the long-term quality demands of its customers in the United States.

Porsche recorded the top score of all brands surveyed in the J.D. Power and Associates 2010 Vehicle Dependability Study^SM.

The study measured problems experienced by original owners of three-year-old (2007 model year) vehicles, including 198 different problem symptoms across all areas of the vehicle. Overall dependability is determined by the level of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality.

Based on this measurement, Porsche had the fewest problems and was the top brand in this important dependability study.

"For Porsche this is very significant," said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. "It confirms that our cars meet the full spectrum of our customers' very demanding expectations well into the ownership experience."

According to J.D. Power and Associates, among new-vehicle shoppers, perception of quality and dependability is the most influential factor in their decision to purchase a specific vehicle model.

Porsche Reveals High-Performance 918 Spyder Concept

Highly Efficient and Ultra-Fast Plug-in Hybrid Super Sports Car Unveiled in Geneva

ATLANTA - March 1, 2010 - Today, on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche unveiled an ultra-efficient, low-emission, mid-engine super sports car featuring hybrid and electric drive technology.

The 918 Spyder concept combines high-tech racing features with electric-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities. For example, it is planned to provide an emission level of just 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer on fuel consumption of only three liters/100 kilometers (equal to approximately 78 mpg U.S.), which is truly outstanding, even for an ultra-compact city car. This car, however, is intended to offer the performance of a super sports car with acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph), and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT.

The 918 Spyder is one of three Porsche models with hybrid drive making their world debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. This trio - made up of Porsche's new Cayenne S Hybrid SUV with parallel full-hybrid drive, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car with electric drive on the front axle and a flywheel mass battery, and the two-seater high-performance 918 Spyder mid-engined sports car with plug-in hybrid technology - clearly demonstrates not only the great bandwidth of this new drive technology, but also the innovative power of Porsche as a genuine pioneer in hybrid drive.

The highly-innovative 918 Spyder concept car combines Porsche's Intelligent Performance philosophy with the high-technology from motorsport, with classic but modern design to make a truly convincing statement.

Innovative powertrain combines race-bred V8 engine with electric drive

This open two-seater is powered by a high-revving V8 developing more than 500 horsepower and a maximum engine speed of 9,200 rpm - as well as electric motors on the front and rear axle with overall mechanical output of 218 horsepower (160 kW).

The V8 combustion engine is the next step in the evolution of the highly successful 3.4-liter power unit already featured in the RS Spyder racing car and positioned mid-ship, in front of the rear axle, giving the car excellent balance and the right set-up for supreme performance on the race track.

Power is transmitted to the wheels by a seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission that feeds the power of the electric drive system to the rear axle. The front-wheel electric drive powers the wheels through a fixed transmission ratio.

The energy reservoir is a fluid-cooled lithium-ion battery positioned behind the passenger cell. The big advantage of a plug-in hybrid is that the battery can be charged on the regular electrical network. A further point is that the car's kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy fed into the battery when applying the brakes, thus providing additional energy for fast and dynamic acceleration.

Driver's choice of four distinct driving modes

A button on the steering wheel allows the driver to choose among four different running modes: The E-Drive mode is for running the car under electric power alone, with a range of up to 25 km or 16 miles. In the Hybrid mode, the 918 Spyder uses both the electric motors and the combustion engine as a function of driving conditions and requirements, offering a range from particularly fuel-efficient all the way to extra-powerful.

The Sport Hybrid mode uses both drive systems, but with the focus on performance. Most of the drive power goes to the rear wheels, with Torque Vectoring serving to additionally improve the car's driving dynamics.

In the Race Hybrid mode the drive systems are focused on pure performance with the highest standard of driving dynamics on the track, running at the limit to their power and dynamic output. With the battery sufficiently charged, a push-to-pass button feeds in additional electrical power (E-Boost), when overtaking or for even better performance.

With the hybrid drive system offering this wide range of individual modes and applications, the 918 Spyder is able either to achieve lap times comparable to those of a thoroughbred racing car, or the extremely low emissions and high fuel economy figures of a plug-in hybrid.

Advanced body structure and design offer more than just good looks

Like the drivetrain, the lightweight body structure of the Porsche 918 Spyder also bears out the car's DNA carried over directly from motorsport: The modular structure with its monocoque bodyshell made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFP) and liberal use of magnesium and aluminum not only reduce weight to below 1,490 kg, or 3,285 lb, but also ensure supreme driving precision thanks to a high level of torsional stiffness.

Reminiscent of highly successful, legendary racing cars such as the Porsche 917 and the current Porsche RS Spyder, the 918 Spyder, with its design concept so typical of Porsche arouses powerful emotions. The combination of racing car dimensions, clearly structured design with perfectly balanced surfaces, and innovative details throughout, creates an ideal synthesis of form and function - following Porsche's design DNA.

The smooth balance of tradition and progress gives the car a powerful stance on the road. Variable aerodynamics, typical of Porsche, ensures both visionary and traditional highlights especially around the rear spoiler. The striking rear hoods extending out of the headrests, in turn, not only fulfill an aerodynamic function on the 918 Spyder, but also accommodate retractable air intakes with a ram air function.

High-tech interior provides glimpse into the future

The driver and passenger are not only embedded in contoured sports bucket seats but also form part of the cockpit, which provides a synthesis of efficient functionality and ergonomic high-tech operation. Additionally, the cockpit offers a glimpse at the potential interior architecture of future Porsche super sports cars. The three free-standing circular dials for road speed (left), engine speed (middle) and energy management (right) would appear to come directly from a racing car in the ‘60s, bearing out that unique philosophy of driver orientation so characteristic of Porsche.

The center console rises up towards the front in the 918 Spyder and houses a touch screen for intuitive control of the car's functions, serving to reduce the number of visible controls and maintain the principle of direct operation.

The control units relevant to the driver are mainly concentrated on the three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel, while the variable driving modes are supplemented by a switch enabling the driver to call up various drive programs and serving as the push-to-pass button for E-boosting. Instrument illumination, finally, varies from green for the consumption-oriented running modes to red for the performance-oriented driving programs.

The Porsche 918 Spyder concept also comes with further innovative functions such as the Range Manager. After being activated in the Center Display, the Range Manager uses the map in the navigation system to present the remaining range the car is able to cover, naturally allowing the driver to influence that range through the appropriate choice of power and performance.

In cities with environmental alert areas the Range Manager also states whether the driver is able to reach a certain destination on electric power alone.

Applying this information and using further info on the availability and location of special energy filling stations, the driver is then able to choose his personal style of driving as well as the right battery charge and filling strategy.

Offering a unique combination of extremely low fuel consumption, supreme performance and long electric range, the Porsche 918 Spyder concept represents an essential milestone in Porsche's strategy on the way to genuine electric-mobility.

Porsche announces next generation Cayenne SUV

All-new SUV debuts in Geneva with more room, technology, performance, and significantly less weight and fuel consumption

ATLANTA - February 25, 2010 - Led by a technologically advanced full hybrid model, the all-new, next-generation Porsche Cayenne sport-utility vehicle will debut at the Geneva motor show in early March. In line with the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy, the entire range, from the entry level Cayenne with a V6 engine to the 500-horsepower Cayenne Turbo, all deliver improved performance while using less fuel and producing fewer emissions than ever before.

The New Porsche Cayenne will make its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show (press days: March 31 and April 1, public days: April 2-11). The Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo go on sale in July as a 2011 model, and U.S. pricing will be announced soon. Porsche dealerships will offer the Cayenne and Cayenne S Hybrid in the fall.

The performance of a V8 with the fuel efficiency of a V6

The highlight is the new Cayenne S Hybrid featuring a highly sophisticated parallel full hybrid drive system. With a combined power output of 380 horsepower from the supercharged V6 combustion engine and an electric motor, the Cayenne S Hybrid combines the performance of a V8 with the economy of a V6.

Through continuous interaction between the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 and electric motor, the Cayenne S Hybrid focuses on maximum efficiency. Depending on driving conditions, either drive unit can operate independently or together. The 47-horsepower (34 kW) electric motor is the ideal partner for the 333-horsepower engine, which produces high torque at low engine speeds. With peak torque at 427 lb-ft at just 1,000 rpm, the Cayenne S Hybrid's performance is on par with a V8-powered Cayenne S.

The Cayenne S Hybrid's two drive units are connected by a decoupling clutch. A hybrid controller constantly coordinates their complex interaction, and intelligent management of the clutch makes the transition among various driving modes seamless. Like many hybrids, the Cayenne S Hybrid can cover short distances on electric power alone, free of emissions and noise up to 60 km/h or almost 40 mph. For aggressive acceleration, the motor provides an extra ‘boost' to the gasoline engine.

What makes the Cayenne S Hybrid unique is its ability to cruise at high speeds on electric power alone. The gasoline engine can be completely switched off and disengaged from the drivetrain at speeds of up to 97 mph. Christened by the Weissach engineers as ‘sailing' - or cruising -- mode, the drag forces exerted by the combustion engine and their braking effect are eliminated in the interest of lower resistance and fuel consumption.

All new-generation Cayenne SUVs set high standards for efficiency and performance. Compared with the former models, fuel consumption is down by up to 23 percent in the New European Driving Cycle and CO₂ emissions are significantly reduced, despite the increased performance. Actual EPA-certified fuel economy figures will be available when the cars go on sale in North America in July.

A new eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission with a wide range of gear ratios and the Automatic Start Stop function (first introduced on the Panamera) contribute to these improvements. So does efficient thermal management of the engine and transmission cooling circuits, on-board electrical network recuperation, variable deceleration fuel cut-off and the Cayenne's intelligent lightweight construction.

New Cayenne sheds weight, gains space, yet looks more sleek and compact

Thanks to a special combination of materials as well as changes in the overall vehicle concept, such as a new all-wheel drive system, weight has been significantly reduced on all models. Despite an even higher standard of safety, the Cayenne S is 400 lbs lighter, which not only improves fuel consumption and lowers emissions, but also boosts performance, agility, and handling.

The completely new Cayenne design leaves no doubt that it is part of the Porsche family. Its sporting character is evident from all angles, and its Porsche shape and design highlights are more distinct than ever before.

The new Cayenne is 1.9 inches longer than its predecessor, and an added 1.6 inches in wheelbase ensures extra space and greater versatility. But despite larger exterior dimensions, the new Cayenne looks far more compact and dynamic.

Inside, the luxurious interior features a high center console that, like the Panamera, rises up at an incline to meet the dashboard center stack with high-quality fittings and a touch-screen infotainment interface. Porsche's traditional set of five round instruments in the drivers gauge cluster includes a high-resolution circular TFT screen to the right of the tachometer. It can be used to change radio stations, vehicle settings, or access the navigation system or view the map. Rear-seat comfort is much improved, as well. The bench slides fore-and-aft by 6.3 inches, while the backrest can be adjusted to three different angles.

The Cayenne V6 and V8 engines are more powerful and more fuel efficient

The entry-level Cayenne with its 300-horsepwer 3.6-liter V6 engine and mated to the new eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission consumes 20 percent less fuel in the New European Driving Cycle than its predecessor.

Fuel consumption is also down significantly on the high-torque Cayenne S. Its 4.8-liter V8 produces 400 horsepower, 15 more than the previous model. When combined with the overall weight savings, performance is markedly increased, yet fuel consumption is down by 23 percent in the New European Driving Cycle.

The Cayenne Turbo, with its 500-horsepower, 4.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 also consumes 23 percent less fuel than its predecessor despite its improved performance and acceleration.

Together with the Cayenne S Hybrid, three of the new Cayenne models produce less than 200 grams of CO₂ per kilometer. At 193 g/km, the Cayenne S Hybrid is not only the cleanest Cayenne model, but also the cleanest vehicle in Porsche's entire portfolio.

to shift or not to shift. that seems to be the question

In my job with Porsche, one of the questions I get asked the most often is “should I get the stick shift or automatic?” A couple of years ago, this was a very easy question to answer; the manual Porsche’s were for the enthusiasts, the people that wanted to really feel and enjoy the car, as well as the ones who wanted the best performance. The reason was the old Tiptronic, which in my opinion was probably the best “regular” automatic transmission in the industry, was really just that: an automatic transmission with a manual mode. The Tiptronic had a power-robbing torque converter and only five forward gears. It was very comfortable and smooth as well as capable of getting into an aggressive and sporty shifting pattern. But still, when it came down to pure performance, it was no match for Porsche’s six speed manuals.

The transmission that changed everything.

For the 2009 model year, the Porsche sports cars received the new (for the retail market) 7-speed PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) gearbox. Porsche developed the PDK gearbox in the 80’s for the race cars and just released it for our street cars last year. In a nutshell, the PDK is a 7-speed double clutch automated manual gearbox that simply does everything better than any standard manual transmission. The PDK shifts quicker than any human being could possibly shift a manual gearbox. In full-automatic mode, it also shifts smoother than the old tiptronic or just about any automatic transmission out there. This gearbox is also extremely adaptive, almost psychic; it seems to always know what you’re trying to do and will almost always have you in the perfect gear. When cruising casually down the street and not accelerating hard, you’ll be in 6^th gear before you hit 35 miles per hour. That seems against everything we know about driving sports cars but it’s hard to argue with the EPA fuel economy numbers it generates and the extreme luxury-car-like comfort it provides. As soon as you hit the gas hard, it will downshift to the lowest safe gear and not shift back up until the perfect time, even if it’s right at the redline. This transmission really is better than the manual in every way.

I have always been a manual transmission enthusiast. To me the automatic vs manual debate has always been very easy: just go for the manual. But now with the PDK Porsche has made it very difficult to make this decision; every time I drive a sports car with the PDK I think: “this is really the way to go. Why drive a manual when you can get something so much better?” But then, I get back in to an old-fashioned stick shift car and realize why. As good as the PDK is, there is nothing like the feeling of doing it yourself. So which would I take? Call me a purist but I’ll stick with the manual, thank you very much.

Porsche Adds New Panamera Models to its Gran Turismo Lineup

ATLANTA - February 16, 2010 - Porsche Cars North America today announced the addition of two new Panamera models, just three months after successfully launching the first four-door Gran Turismo in three V8 flavors: the Panamera S, the Panamera 4S and the Panamera Turbo.

The Panamera and Panamera 4, the model line's new entry level versions, will be in Porsche dealerships in June 2010. Both feature a brand-new 3.6-liter V6 with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) developing 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The Panamera transmits its power to the road via the rear wheels, while the Panamera 4 comes standard with active all-wheel drive. U.S. models will include Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), Porsche's new and revolutionary seven-speed double-clutch gearbox, as standard equipment.

The Panamera and Panamera 4 are examples of the Porsche Intelligent Performance development strategy. Equipped with the PDK gearbox and the Auto Start Stop function, Porsche expects these new models to be considerably more fuel efficient than their normally aspirated V8 siblings. Official U.S. EPA fuel economy figures will be announced closer to the new models' on-sale date, and both meet the strict EU5 emission standard in Europe and the LEV standard in the United States. And like all Panamera models, they are not subject to a gas-guzzler tax.

Porsche has always focused on superior efficiency and performance, and in the case of these new Panamera models these long-held tenets are not mutually exclusive. One example of this ideal combination of qualities is consistent lightweight construction with the axles, doors, hood, front fenders and tailgate all made of aluminum. Likewise, the brand new 90-degree angle V6 powerplant built at Porsche's engine plant in Zuffenhausen is approximately 66 lbs. lighter than the Porsche V8 in the Panamera S and 4S. This contributes to the low overall curb weight, which in the case of the Panamera with the PDK transmission is just 3,880 lbs. (1,730 kg).

Like the proven V8 models, both the Panamera and the Panamera 4, as genuine Gran Turismos, combine a sporting character with a high standard of comfort and everyday driving qualities. Steel suspension with variable dampers is standard, and adaptive air suspension with additional air volume on demand is available as an option. This provides a wide range of suspension qualities and features, with a high level of motoring comfort on the one hand and extremely sporting driving dynamics on the other.

Both models will be making their world debut at the Beijing Motor Show on April 23, 2010. The Panamera and Panamera 4 MSRPs are $74,400 and $78,900, respectively.

Since its U.S. introduction in October 2009, the Panamera has received numerous awards and recognition. The Panamera Turbo was named Playboy Magazine's 2010 Car of the Year. Others include an Edmunds Inside Line Editors' Most Wanted Award, inclusion in Edmunds.com's Top Recommended Vehicles list, two Car and Driver Editors Choice Awards (Sports Sedans and Luxury Sedans), Bloomberg Car of the Year, About.com Cars Best New Cars of 2010, and NADAguides.com's Car of the Month for January.

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid to World Debut in Geneva

We've been hearing rumors (now confirmed) for a while that Porsche is coming out with a hybrid Cayenne and Panamera. The surprise to all of us is that they just built a hybrid race car... the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. Here is the official word from Porsche:

Porsche Intelligent Performance to make Race Cars even More Efficient

ATLANTA - February 11, 2010 - 110 years after Ferdinand Porsche developed the world's first hybrid, the Lohner-Porsche, Porsche engineers are now expanding this visionary drive concept with a production-based GT race car: Over the past 45 years, Porsche 911 race cars have recorded more than 20,000 victories and on March 4, a Porsche 911 GT3 featuring an innovative hybrid drive will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, opening a new chapter in the history of Porsche.

This innovative hybrid technology has been developed especially for racing, differentiating itself from conventional hybrid systems by way of its configuration and components. In the case of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the front axle features two electric motors, each developing 60 kW and supplement the 480 hp, naturally aspirated four-liter flat-six that drives the rear wheels. Instead of the heavy batteries usually found in a hybrid road car, an electrical flywheel power generator is installed inside next to the driver delivering energy to the electric motors.

The flywheel generator is also an electric motor, with its rotor spinning at speeds of up to 40,000 rpm while mechanically storing energy. The flywheel generator is charged whenever the driver applies the brakes, as the two front axle electric motors reverse their role and act as generators. Then, when accelerating out of a bend or while overtaking, the driver can use the extra energy from the charged flywheel generator, sending up to 120 kW of stored kinetic energy to the motors. This additional power is available after each charge for approximately six to eight seconds.

Energy formerly converted into heat upon each brake application, and therefore wasted, is now converted into additional drive power in a very efficient manner.

In addition to increasing available drive power, depending on racing conditions, the hybrid drive can also be called upon to save fuel. By increasing the efficiency and, accordingly, the performance of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, reductions can be made to the weight of the fuel tank or the car can make less frequent pit stops, for example.

After its debut in Geneva, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid will be tested in long-distance races on the Nürburgring. The highlight of this test program will be the 24 Hours on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring, May 15-16, 2010. The focus is not on the 911 GT3 R Hybrid winning the race, but rather spearheading technology as a "racing lab." The intent is to provide hands-on know-how for the subsequent use of hybrid technology in road-going sports cars.

ATLANTA - February 8, 2010 - The engineers at Porsche have developed a range-topping sports car designed to deliver the finest in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S. The heart of this exclusive high-performance athlete is the six-cylinder boxer engine boosted by two exhaust gas turbochargers with variable turbine geometry. The flat-six engine has an increase in power over the 911 Turbo by 30 to 530 hp and maximum torque is a most impressive 516 lb-ft.

Despite its significant increase in power and dynamic performance, the new 911 Turbo S does not consume any more fuel than the Porsche 911 Turbo, making it by far the most efficient sports car in its class. The 911 Turbo S Coupe is EPA rated at 17 mpg city, 24 highway.

The 911 Turbo S comes exclusively with the seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), Porsche's Double-Clutch Gearbox, delivering power to the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system. The increase in driving enjoyment is ensured by the now standard Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), including the standard mechanical differential lock on the rear axle. In conjunction with Launch Control, part of the standard Sport Chrono Package Turbo, the 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds.

Top speed is 195 mph (315 km/h). Extra-light and fade resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) provides outstanding performance in terms of stopping power and controlled application of the brakes.

Other standard equipment on the 911 Turbo S includes Dynamic Corning Lights, 19-inch RS Spyder wheels with central locking, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, and a CD/DVD changer. The special twin-tone leather upholstery in Black/Cream or Black/Titanium Blue, along with the new Ice Blue Metallic exterior color underlines the exclusivity of the first Turbo S in five years.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S will be at dealerships as both a Coupe and Cabriolet as of May 2010.

The 2011 Turbo S Coupe and Turbo S Cabriolet prices are $159,100 and $170,200, respectively.

This is only three months after the debut of the highly acclaimed Panamera, Porsche's first Gran Turismo and sports car for four.

Porsche traditionally has emphasized efficiency, but the new flagship 911 gives a new meaning to its high-performance label. While its acceleration, braking and handling capabilities make it a true super sports car, it goes about its business with a thriftiness that is equally remarkable and by no means the norm in its class. With 20 more horsepower, and a 13 percent increase in fuel economy, the new 911 Turbo is indeed more powerful and more efficient.

"We are very excited to welcome the all-new 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo into the family," said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. "More than ever, this supercar is a technological tour de force, and the seemingly unanimous accolades from the media support what we already believe; this is the best 911 Turbo ever."

The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo features the first entirely new engine in its storied 35-year history. The new flat-six boxer engine now delivers 500 horsepower, 20 more than the previous power plant. Maximum torque is up by 15 to 516 lb. ft. when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package Turbo.

All of this means that the new 911 Turbo can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds when combined with the new, highly acclaimed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Top track speed is 194 mph for both the Coupe and the Cabriolet models and its EPA estimates are a best-in-class 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for the new Coupe when equipped with the PDK transmission.

Production of New Panamera Already Reaches 10,000 Milestone

Atlanta/Stuttgart/Leipzig, December 14, 2009-Just three months after it went on sale in Europe and less than two after its debut in the U.S., the 10,000^th Panamera rolled off the production line at Porsche's plant in Leipzig, Germany.

The 10,000 Panamera is a 500 HP platinum silver metallic Panamera Turbo, which is set to be delivered to a customer in Singapore.

"Sales of the Panamera have really taken off: we have already secured over 9,000 orders," said Michael Macht, Chairman of the Board of Porsche AG. Macht also pointed out that the Panamera has earned praise throughout the industry and has won several coveted awards, including Playboy's "Car of the Year", Edmunds Inside Line's "Editors Most Wanted" and Bloomberg's "Car of the Year".

In breaking down what customers are ordering, Porsche says the Panamera 4S is proving particularly popular and has a share of 44 percent, which is ahead of the Turbo (36 percent) and the Panamera S (20 percent).

The fourth Porsche model series is manufactured at the Leipzig plant, sharing a production line with the Cayenne SUV. The innovative, highly streamlined production process is seen as a model of technological and economic excellence for the automobile industry worldwide.

PCNA Sales up for Fourth Consecutive Month

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera Gran Turismo in the United States, today announced November sales in the U.S. of 1,626 units compared to the same period last year when it sold 1,378, up 18 percent. This marks the fourth consecutive month that PCNA has recorded an increase in year-over-year sales from 2008.
In its first full month, Porsche’s new four-door Panamera recorded sales of 366 units, while total Cayenne sales were 632, and sports car sales totaled 678.
Porsche’s overall year-to-date sales in 2009 are 17,578 compared to the same period last year when sales were 23,881, a decrease of 26 percent.
For the month, Porsche’s Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales were 508, compared to 416 for the same month last year, a 22 percent increase.

Porsche Boxster Spyder

Porsche just released some more information on the upcoming Boxster Spyder. The car seems amazing; it will be the lightest Porsche we will offer and should drive like nothing else out there. Just to show how hard-core this car will be, air conditioning and a CD player will be options (to keep weight down) and the roof will be detachable instead of folding (also for weight savings). The only thing to watch out for is you have to make sure to stay below 124mph when you have the top attached.

Porsche 911 GT3 R - New Racing Version for International GT Sport

NOTE: The new Porsche 911 GT3 R does not meet the current specification requirements for the American Le Mans Series Challenge class, IMSA Patron GT3 Challenge by Yokohama, Rolex Grand-Am GT or the SPEED World Challenge GT, and therefore will not be imported to North America.

Stuttgart - November 19 -- Following the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is entering yet another racing car in the 2010 motorsport season: The 911 GT3 R will be raced in series based on the international FIA GT3 regulations, succeeding the 911 GT3 Cup S. The main focus in developing this new model was on better drivability and easier handling.

The 911 GT3 R is powered by a four-liter six-cylinder boxer engine delivering maximum output of 480 hp (353 kW) transmitted to the rear axle by a sequential six-speed dog gearbox.

The starting point in developing the 911 GT3 R weighing just 1,200 kg or 2,646 lb was the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup presented in September for one-make cup racing. Thanks to its increase in engine size by 0.2 liters, the GT3 R offers 30 bhp more than the Cup model. Both cars are based on the extra-wide body of the 911 GT3 RS street-legal sports car.

An anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control and an e-gas with "throttle-blip" function make it much easier to get used to this new GT3 racing car than its predecessor, meaning that the new model is also more appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver.

Flared wheel arches added on to the body both front and rear bear clear testimony to the wider track than on the former model. And like all second-generation versions of the 911, the new 911 GT3 R also comes with striking LED rear light clusters.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R will make its world debut on January 14, 2010 at the Birmingham Motor Show. The car is built by Porsche's Motorsport Department at the Weissach Development Centre and will be delivered to Customer Teams the world over as of spring 2010. The base price of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is 279,000 Euros plus local sales tax/VAT.

2010 Porsche GT3 RS explained by Porsche

Announcing the new GT3 RS for 2010
Coming soon to a trackday near you is the new 2010 GT3 RS. The latest iteration of the 911 homologation special boasts more power, lighter weight, improved stability, and a dynamic new livery. Improvements to the intake components result in a free revving, 450hp motor that is paired with a shorter geared transmission
through a lightweight single-mass flywheel. In addition to the lighter flywheel, the door panels have been reworked to save weight, and titanium is used extensively in the exhaust to save approximately 13 lbs. Those customers wishing to save even more weight can opt for the lightweight halogen headlamps, a lithium ion battery, and can even delete the air conditioning and CDR. Lateral dynamics and stability are improved through increased downforce, PSM, and a wider front track covering 245/35/19 tires. Finally, the new livery is a dramatic statement of the GT3 RS's racing roots. For customers wishing a more subdued appearance, the wheels can be
painted in silver instead at no additional cost.
Engine:
The 2010 GT3 RS engine, based on the legendary GT1 engine, utilizes the technological enhancements first seen in the 2010 GT3, such as a larger displacement and enhanced VarioCam Plus that continuously adjusts both intake and exhaust camshafts. However, in GT3 RS guise, the 3.8 liter powerplant produces 450 hp @ 7900 rpm, and 317 lb-ft @ 6750 rpm for a specific output of 118 hp/liter. This increase in power is accomplished through modifications to the intake manifold and air cleaner. All told, those improvements result in a reduction of flow resistance of approximately 20%. The GT3 RS motor also boasts a higher compression ratio than that of the GT3 (12.2:1 vs. 12.0:1). To save weight (approximately 13lbs), the rear silencer and tailpipes are made of titanium. As in previous models, the motor features dry-sump lubrication, titanium connecting rods, forged pistons, a variable intake system, and a low-backpressure sport exhaust.
Transmission:
As in previous years, the only available transmission is a 6 speed manual. Compared to the 2010 GT3, the final drive ratio is shorter (3.89 vs. 3.44) as is 6th gear (0.88 vs. 0.92). This lower gearing in conjunction with the more powerful motor results in superior drive dynamics, especially in a track enviornment. For additional high speed engine response, a lighter single-mass flywheel is employed.
Exterior Styling:
The 2010 GT3 RS sports a completely new livery, yet remains unmistakeably a GT3 RS. Standard colors on the GT3 RS are Carrara White and Aqua Blue Metallic, and in addition to those a special color, Grey Black, is also available as an option. Each exterior color is paired with one of two contrast colors, Guards Red or White Gold Metallic. Components finished in the contrasting color are the wheels, exterior mirrors, front air intake surround, rear wing sideplates, GT3 RS badge on deck lid, and the start/finish flag and GT3 RS logos on front right and rear left fenders. At the front, the lighting strategy of the GT3 is carried over, while the front spoiler is larger and more pronounced for increased downforce. At the side one immediately notices the front fender flares that cover wider tires and allow for a wider track. In addition, the black side skirt previously seen on the GT2 manages airflow around the wide rear fenders. At the rear, the new carbon fiber wing with forged aluminum
wing supports.
Interior:
The lightweight, pared down feel of the GT3 RS continues on the inside of the car. The door panels are simplified, with a red pull strap instead of the usual door opener, and the storage box has been removed. In place of the standard dash panel trim strip, carbon fiber with an RS 3.8 logo is used. Also standard are carbon fiber door entry guards with the RS 3.8 logo. For customers looking for an even more single purpose track car, A/C can be deleted, as can the CDR. Conversely, cupholders are a no cost option on the GT3 RS. Note, as in years past, the roll bar is not offered in the US market.
Chassis:
The chassis of the GT3 RS is largely the same as that of the GT3. Notable differences include standard Dynamic Engine Mounts, wider front/rear track, and split wishbones in the rear. As in the 2008 GT3 RS, the rear track is 44 mm wider than that of the GT3. This allows use of wider tires (325), and provides greater overall grip and stability. New for 2010 is a wider front track and wider front wheels and tires. Again, this results in greater stability and grip. Like in the GT3, the Front Lift
System is optional. The new, lighter weight braking system is carried over from the GT3, and PCCBs are an option. Finally, Porsche Stability Management is now fitted as standard. This system parallels that of the GT2 in operation, which means that it increases active safety, but not at the expense of extremely sporty driving. Audio and Communications CDR 30 is fitted as standard, PCM 3.0 is optional, along with Navigation, XM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth, and iPod connectivity.
Pricing and Availability:
The GT3 will be available from early spring 2010, with a base price of $132,800.

Porsche Partners with Microsoft on Windows 7

Computerworld - Microsoft today announced that it would sell Windows 7 desktop real estate to advertisers and launched a pilot program that includes Coke, Infiniti and Porsche.

Using Windows 7 themes -- collections of backgrounds, borders and audio elements -- advertisers will be able to brand the desktop, Microsoft said.

Porsche and the Environment

Porsche has always emphasized it's commitment to the environment with clean, efficient and almost fully recyclable cars. Here is an excerpt from Porsche literature about the environment:

911: At Porsche, a fundamental aspect of design is intelligent lightweight construction. For both economical and ecological reasons. This forms the basis for low fuel consumption values in conjunction with outstanding performance. It is economical thanks to the high proportion of aluminium cast alloys, magnesium, plastics and super high-strength sheet steel used. This is substantially more stable and lighter than conventional steel. In the 911 models approximately 20 % of components are made from lightweight alloys. It is also ecological because all materials used are meticulously selected. We use only innovative and environmentally friendly components. All lightweight materials are easily recyclable and each material is labelled to facilitate its separation for recycling. The reduction in the number of plastic variants helps to ensure more efficient recycling. Recycled plastics are used where they meet our exacting technical requirements. In all, the current 911 is approximately 85 % recyclable. In addition, Porsche primarily uses environmentally friendly water based paints.The 911 is absolutely free of asbestos, CFCs and components manufactured using CFCs. This is because, here at Porsche, environmental protection does not begin at the end of a vehicle’s life. It starts at the planning and development stage.

Cayenne: Owning a Porsche should be a lasting pleasure with minimalimpact on the environment. That’s why every Porsche is built to endure both technically and in terms of design. The lightweight exhaust on the Cayenne models, for example, is constructed from long-life stainless steel. Weight reduction is a fundamental part of the Porsche design philosophy. By using a greater proportion of high-strength materials, e.g., special steels, cast aluminium alloys and synthetic materials, we have successfully reduced the weight of each car and therefore its fuel consumption. Every production process we use at Porsche is designed with the environment in mind. Every Porsche model is entirely free of asbestos, CFCs and components manufactured using CFCs. All legal requirements in respect of recycling are fulfilled. Materials are labelled in accordance with VDA 260, enabling better recycling of end-of-life vehicles and individual parts and assemblies. While more than 85 % of the car can be recycled using current technologies, the chances are your new Cayenne may never need recycling at all. After all, two thirds of all the cars we have ever made are still on the road today.

2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder: Light, Powerful, Purist Roadster

Porsche's newest entry will be the lightest in its line-up

ATLANTA - November 5, 2009 - Weighing in at just 2,811 lbs., the new 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder will be the lightest Porsche available - from a company known for lightweight, proficient sports cars. This new mid-engined roadster represents the true, purist form of the sports car - agile, powerful, open and efficient. This third Boxster model will join the Boxster and Boxster S and will make its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, December 2, 2009.

The newest member of the Boxster family stands out from the other versions of Porsche's mid-engined roadster. Its low-slung, lightweight soft top - when closed - extends far to the rear to protect the driver and passenger from bright sunshine, wind and weather. This top, when combined with extra-low side windows and two striking bulges on the single-piece rear lid, provides the Boxster Spyder with a sleek silhouette reminiscent of the Carrera GT.

The Boxster Spyder features a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine with Direct Fuel Injection upfront of the rear axle. Maximum output is 320 horsepower (hp), 10 hp more than the Boxster S.

The combination of 10 more hp and 176 pounds less weight than the award-winning Boxster S, plus an all-new sport suspension that lowers the Boxster Spyder 20 mm, a lower center of gravity, a standard limited slip differential, and exclusive wheels provides the kind of driving dynamics that back up the unique look. Aluminum door skins and lightweight interior door panels from the 911 GT3 RS contribute to the weight reduction.

When equipped with Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission and the Sports Chrono Package, the new Spyder, using Launch Control, accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Top track speed is 166 mph - with the roof open.

Fundamentally, the entire Boxster family is the successor to the legendary 550 Spyder and RS 60 of the Fifties and Sixties, all sharing the same mid-engine roadster concept. Low weight and supreme agility combine to provide outstanding driving pleasure.

In 2004 and 2008 Porsche produced limited editions of the Boxster bearing the additional name Spyder, honoring the 550 and RS 60. In contrast, the new Boxster Spyder is a regular, but specially developed and upgraded production model as compared with the Boxster and Boxster S.

The 2011 Boxster Spyder goes on sale February 2010. U.S. pricing is $61,200.

IntelliChoice.com Awards Porsche for Best Certified Pre-Owned Luxury Warranty

Atlanta, November 4, 2009 - IntelliChoice.com announced this week that the winner of its 2009 Best Warranty for luxury cars is Porsche Cars North America. This is the second consecutive time that Porsche's Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program has received this prestigious award.

Under the Porsche program, customers who purchase a Certified Pre-Owned Porsche will receive a company backed 2-year or cumulative 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) limited warranty that mirrors the new car limited warranty coverage. Additionally, for customers who buy cars with a balance of the New Car Limited Warranty Coverage, this remaining balance will be added to the new Certified Pre-owned Limited Warranty coverage, which makes coverage up to 6 years from the in-service date.

According to IntelliChoice.com, Porsche rated the highest with customers of luxury brands in a number of key criteria, including: certification inspection process, brand value, extended manufacturer warranties, title verification, roadside assistance, special financing, return policy and dealer compliance with the program.

"It is an honor to have IntelliChoice again recognize our CPO Warranty as the best among all the luxury competitors," said Kevin P. Harvey, PCNA's manager of pre-owned operations. "From a customer standpoint , this award means we are meeting our goals of providing warranty coverage that gives our customers peace of mind and a sense of value. Both are key factors to any successful CPO program."

So far this year, PCNA has sold 5,603 CPO vehicles, which is just slightly below last year's record pace of 5,862.

Harvey said he expects to surpass last year's mark by year's end.

"Being recognized with this prestigious award will certainly help," he said

Porsche is Working on Alternative Powered Sports Car

Speaking publicly for the first time at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Porsche's new president and CEO, Michael Macht, revealed that Porsche is considering and working hard on an electric-powered sports car that would meet the high demands of the Porsche brand.

"I am also convinced that one day Porsche will have an electric sports car in its line-up," said Macht at the company's press conference today. While he cautioned that so far the available battery technology is not "sufficient to meet Porsche's strict requirements," he said "our engineers are already working hard on this challenge."

"An electric sports car would therefore only make sense for Porsche if it offers performance and a cruising range similar to that of current sports cars in the market," he said. "We are therefore taking the first step in this direction with a full hybrid - in the Cayenne, the Panamera and maybe in the not too distant future also in a racing car or a production 911. Why not?"

Macht pointed out that Porsche has a long legacy with hybrid technology as it was exactly 109 years ago that Professor Ferdinand Porsche built the first fully functioning car with hybrid technology.

Looks can be deceiving... at first glance, this looks like a brand new Silver over Black Porsche Boxster. When you get closer to it, you realize that the interior is actually Sea Blue and the top is Metropol Blue; both as dark blue as you can get, subtle but very elegant. When you investigate more closely you will find out this is not a brand new car, although it really looks like it. The car is actually a 2005 Boxster with only 15k miles. We just took this car in trade from a local client that you can tell took great care of it. This stunning little 996 body style 911 Carrera Cabriolet is finished in Lapis Blue over Savana Beige Leather and equipped with power heated seats, 18" RAD wheels, and the Tiptronic transmission. The car had an unfortunate fender-bender on the front end but you would never notice it if I didn't tell you. Why does Porsche call the white in the sports cars Carrara White instead of Carrera White?

If you have ever asked this question, you are one of the few people that noticed the color is called Carrara White and not Carrera white. Carrara is not a typo or a spelling mistake. Unbeknownst to most, the name of Porsche’s white in the sports cars is derived from a very fine Italian marble called Carrara Marble. The minerals of the Carrara marble are among the most known Italian minerals. These minerals are characterized by the shape of their crystals and their incredible transparence and sharpness. The Carrara marble has been used for thousands of years and is one of the most popular marbles; it has been widely utilized by famous sculptors such as Michelangelo and Canova (webmineralshop.com). Porsche is very good at coming up with different and interesting color names, like Carmona Red (formerly known as Carmon Red), more info on that one in a future post, so stay tuned…

These two are the ultimate driver's edition of each line.
The GT3 is the 911 built for the track. It's lighter, more powerful and much more focused than a "regular" 911. This is the ultimate street-legal race car.
The Cayenne GTS is an SUV that seems to think it's a sports car. This thing has no idea it weighs more than 5,000 pounds and really seems to define the laws of gravity. I've been in the passenger seat in one of these at the California Speedway racetrack with a Porsche Sport Driving School instructor behind the wheel. I would have never believed you can drift around corners in a racetrack in a car you can take off-road but believe me, it's possible. That ride was amazing.
